Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski was ‘happy’ to score the winner in the derby with Salernitana on Sunday and said the Partenopei ‘hope’ to win the Scudetto ‘that everyone dreams of’.

The Poland international scored the only goal in Salerno, as the Partenopei picked up their 10th win in 11 Serie A games in 2021-22.

Zielinski revealed it was a tough game against Stefano Colantuono’s men, when both teams finished the match with 10 players.

“It wasn’t easy, I almost scored at the start of the game,” he told DAZN. “We didn’t take advantage of the numerical superiority, but we won, and we are happy.”

The midfielder was asked if the team missed the physical presence of Victor Osimhen, who was absent this weekend.

“Salernitana did well in defence, we reached 20 metres and lacked the decisive shots and passes,” he replied.

The 27-year-old scored his second goal of the campaign and his first in five games.

“I’m happy it arrived at this moment. It’s the winning goal in the derby, I’m happy. But more than for the goal, I’m happy for the team that continues to win.”

Napoli sit first in the League after 11 games and the midfielder stressed the Azzurri are hoping to battle for the Scudetto in 2021-22.

“We are aware that we are strong,” he said. “The results say so. We must continue on this path and win as many games as possible.

“We hope that in the end, the championship that everyone dreams of will arrive.”
