Zinedine Zidane felt it was “only normal” Real Madrid would suffer in defence against Roma in the Champions League.

The Giallorossi wasted numerous clear-cut chances over both legs, but lost 2-0 home and away.

“We played well and ran into some difficulties considering Roma’s performance, but that was only normal. At the end we scored four goals in two games without conceding any,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

Real Madrid were jeered off the field at half-time and one got the impression a Roma goal would’ve turned the mood sour.

“The crowd is demanding at the Bernabeu, but the players know that,” continued Zidane.

“Perhaps it’s true we allowed too much at the back, but I had said it would be normal considering Roma have great players and were coming off seven consecutive Serie A victories.

“We ran some risks in defence, but that was only to be expected. The substitutions went well in both legs, but that means nothing, it’s part of the job of a Coach.”

Francesco Totti came on for the final stages and was given a warm ovation by the Bernabeu crowd in probably his final Champions League game.

“I was happy that Totti got to play and was applauded by the Real Madrid fans too.”
