“Every day my father calls me and asks: ‘How is Mauro Icardi? What did Gabigol say? Tell Samir Handanovic he’s doing a great job.’ In the end I have to tell him: Hey Dad, I am your son! Aren’t you going to ask how I’m doing in Milan?
“He only ever asks me about the squad at the moment, as that is what he cares about. He calls me at 5-6am. What he does and what he sees is all done through the eyes of an Inter fan.
“There are many thousands of people around the world who follow Inter as well, not just in Italy. We represent their hope and the chance to make their dreams come true. We represent the owners and therefore we represent Inter,” continued Steven Zhang at an event for sponsors.
“The eyes of the Inter fans are on us. You have no idea how many people continually talk to us about Inter, both in Italy and all over the world.
“It is an honour for me to be at Inter and to work with you. Life is unpredictable, you never know what the future may hold. When a few years ago my father called and asked if I wanted to work with him again, I never thought I’d be here spending my Christmas in Milan with you.
“Despite a few problems and difficulties, we must continue working and take on the challenges that present themselves. It is truly an honour for us to be here and form part of the Inter family.
“I don’t believe Inter are a big club because we are here, but rather it is represented by over 100 years of history. Generation after generation, thousands of people and players gave their all for this club.
“Some of us might only be here for a limited period of our lives, but what I ask you, during your time at Inter, is to fight and give everything for this club so you never let down the fans. Never.”
