Zdenek Zeman is keen to see his Cagliari side play with ‘more simplicity’ against Empoli tomorrow, after a complicated affair with Sampdoria.

The Sardinians came back from two goals down to hold the Blucerchiati to a 2-2 draw, and while their Coach remains satisfied with the character shown by his players, he wants the Rossoblu to make life a little easier for themselves next time out.

“It’s a shame about the result,” the former Roma and Lazio boss said at his pre-Empoli Press conference.

“Much has been made of our deficiencies in defence, but the first goal was both offside and two of their attackers obstructed us. Then [Pedro] Obiang scored a great goal.

“However, we fought, we recovered to the point that we could even win. I think [Samuele] Longo’s goal was well-taken.

“Our performance was convincing against a team who were unbeaten and conceded fewer goals than anyone else.”

However, focus is now on Empoli.

“Last year, they played well, but now they’ve improved further. They have great aggression in the middle of the park and two forwards who unleash their speed over the last few 100 feet.

“Against Sampdoria we found ourselves in the final third 60 times. Our opponents did so only 20 [times], yet the result was only a draw.

“We have to play with more simplicity. We're fine, now we must transfer these words on to the field.”
