Roma Coach Zdenek Zeman launched a scathing attack on Federation President Giancarlo Abete. “He’s not my enemy. He is the enemy of football.”

The tactician is known for his vicious comments about the hierarchy of calcio and did not hold back in an interview with Sette, which will be fully released on Friday.

Zeman was asked which enemy he’d like to go to dinner with and the journalist wondered if Abete would be the candidate.

“He’s not my enemy. He is the enemy of football,” replied Zeman. He also returned to the subject of cleaning up the sport.

“There have been some improvements in football, but I fear it’s more down to the fear of being discovered than any actual belief in doing the right thing. We need more positive examples.

“Football should be simplicity and that means winning by proving yourselves to be superior on the field and not off it.”

It was recently confirmed Zeman had received an initial approach to be the Coach of Inter.

“There were many words, but then we’d have to see if there were the right conditions to work well. I am not talking about the players I’d want to buy, either.”

Roma were one of the first Italian football clubs to be floated on the stock exchange, but Zeman doesn’t like the idea.

“I say clubs should not be on the stock exchange and the results prove me right. Football should be outside of finance and politics.”
