Former Zenit St Petersburg player Yuri Zeludkov claims Axel Witsel is “playing badly out of spite” and waiting for a Juventus move.

The midfielder was set to join the Bianconeri in the summer, and was in Turin to take his medical.

However, the deal dramatically collapsed at the last-minute, and the Belgian international returned to Russia.

“They didn’t sell him to Juve and he’s playing really badly out of spite,” Zeludkov fumed, as reported by ITA Sport Press.

“He goes onto the pitch, punches his time clock and waits for the new year, hoping he can leave. Why do I say that? Just watch him play.

“I don’t know why [Coach Mircea] Lucescu is so determined to play him, for the moment I think he’s stopped playing football.

“In the end I think he has hardly any interest, he gets his wages anyway. You can see he’s not happy here, sell him and let him go where he wants, God help him.”
