There are reports that Lazio striker Mauro Zarate could leave the club in January after falling out with Edy Reja.

The 23-year-old Argentine didn't take too kindly to being benched for the derby at the weekend and reacted badly to being substituted against Cesena in midweek.

La Gazzetta dello Sport understands that Reja did not appreciate his actions and sought to calm the waters in training yesterday together with Lazio's three leaders – Tommaso Rocchi, Cristian Ledesma and Lionel Scaloni.

La Gazzetta dello Sport understands that Reja did not appreciate his actions and sought to calm the waters in training yesterday together with Lazio's three leaders – Tommaso Rocchi, Cristian Ledesma and Lionel Scaloni.

However, it appears that their efforts were in vain as Zarate is still angry even though Reja intends to play him from the start against Napoli this weekend.

If Zarate were to come on the market, there would be no shortage of takers.

Tottenham, Manchester City and Sevilla have all expressed an interest in the recent past and might be tempted into a loan move when the transfer window opens again.

Reja would then look to bring in a target man as Zarate's replacement, preferably Werder Bremen's Hugo Almeida.
