Roma CEO Italo Zanzi made it clear they “want to improve on second place” in Serie A this season.

The Giallorossi set a new club record of 85 points, but still finished well behind Scudetto winners Juventus.

“Last season we finished second in Serie A, but this year we want to improve on second,” Zanzi told the Corriere dello Sport newspaper.

“We will be competitive in Italy and in Europe. Rudi Garcia is very satisfied with our pre-season training, as we’ve created the foundations for the new campaign.

“We can reach the opening match in good shape, I am confident. I saw many fans following us too and we know how fantastic the Roma supporters are. It’s very important for us to feel their passion.”

Roma are more in the hands of American investors than ever before, as President James Pallotta’s company bought out a share of bank Unicredit and plans are progressing for the construction of a new stadium.

“The President made this choice because he knows the potential of the club and has faith in its infrastructure,” continued Zanzi.

“The new investors have great experience and know what business is all about. It’s a great opportunity to have them on our Board of Directors and we are proud to have them with us.

“The President wants to do everything possible to win, as this club has very strong foundations and a great future.

“We have a group created specifically to work on the stadium issue and we know it will take time, but we have a precise strategy.

“The new stadium will be a huge opportunity for the fans, but also a focal point for the club that will be important for the city.”
