Nicolò Zaniolo will undergo surgery today for a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament with meniscus damage, ending the Roma star’s season and ruling him out of Euro 2020.

The 20-year-old’s right knee buckled during last night’s 2-1 defeat to Juventus and he immediately realised the extent of the injury, as he was inconsolable when being stretchered away.

Tests last night confirmed the initial diagnosis and he has arrived back at the Villa Stuart clinic this morning to have the operation.

This type of injury usually requires six months on the sidelines, so it’s safe to assume his season is over and he won’t be taking part in Euro 2020 with Italy this summer.

“I swear to you… I will return stronger than ever,” wrote Zaniolo on Instagram last night.
