Roma could spring a surprise in their Champions League opener against Real Madrid on Wednesday by handing Nicolo Zaniolo his debut.

Zaniolo became the fourth player to earn an Italy call-up before his Serie A debut, and Gazzetta dello Sport claims he could start alongside Daniele De Rossi and Steven N’Zonzi in Roma’s midfield at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The 19-year-old only joined the Giallorossi over the summer, moving as part of Radja Nainggolan’s switch to Inter, but has yet to make an official appearance at the Olimpico.
