“At first, I didn’t have time to think,” he told Il Corriere dello Sport. “But later, I said to myself: ‘Noooo, again’.

“I already know everything, it will be hard, but I like to think it will be an experience that shapes me. I’m already counting down.”

The 21-year-old admitted he has had ‘his share of bad luck’ already but vows to fight his way back to the pitch.

“I never thought about quitting, not even when I realised it had happened again. I force myself, even if I don’t always manage to hold back my mood.

“Then, let’s say I have run out of knees, I have already had my share of bad luck.”
