Roma attacker Nicolò Zaniolo closes in on a return to the pitch and has reportedly appeared in a training match with the youth team.

Sky Sport Italia has revealed that the Giallorossi youngster, who suffered a cruciate ligament injury in January, has returned in full training and even played a training match with Roma’s Primavera side.

He completed the full workout session with youth coach Alberto De Rossi and participated in the match at the end.

The good news will be welcomed by coach Paulo Fonseca, who currently prepares for Roma’s return to action against Sampdoria on Wednesday.

Zaniolo looks set to be back in contention during the run-in, but his return to full training with the first-team squad is pending.

Before the injury, the 20-year-old played 24 games across all competitions, contributing six goals and two assists.
