Inter captain Javier Zanetti is convinced that his side will fight for honours under new boss Gian Piero Gasperini.

The latter will bring new ideas to the club after replacing Leonardo on the bench, but Zanetti is optimistic about future success.

"In these years we have won trophies and done well," he told the Corriere dello Sport. "Even last season, despite the difficulties, we lifted silverware.

"We want to do the same with Gasperini, starting with the Italian Super Cup. Then we'll fight for the Scudetto.

"I've spoken to the new Coach and he made an excellent impression on me. He loves to work and his Genoa side played excellent football."

Gasperini is relatively inexperienced at the very highest level, having only taken charge of Juventus' Primavera side, Crotone and Genoa. He also plays with a 3-4-3.

"I think Gasperini will make us sweat, yet I'm convinced that our objectives will be achieved," Zanetti added. "He'll find a great squad when he arrives.

"We've hardly ever used a three-man defence, but the season hasn't started yet and the Coach will decide what is the best formation to use.

"Gasperini is sure of his own ability. He's charged up and full of enthusiasm."
