Inter vice-President Javier Zanetti confirms “sacrifices” will have to be made to meet Financial Fair Play regulations.

The Nerazzurri failed to qualify for the Champions League this season, meaning their budget for next term is lower as a result.

“Coach Roberto Mancini? We share a desire to improve team to return to being protagonists,” Zanetti confirmed at the Alfa Romeo Museum.

“Samir Handanovic? I know him. He’s a professional. He’s expressed a desire to play in the Champions League, and I hope he can do it with us.

“The message is clear though, we want those who wear the Inter shirt to be very happy, because there’s a lot of history behind it. As for Mauro Icardi, he’s very happy.

“Ever Banega? He’s an important player with quality and personality, he’d do well anywhere. We hope he can win the Europa League for the third time in a row with us, it’d be very important for our group.

“We have to be smart and adhere to FFP, according to the parameters. Then we have to figure out who we can bring in to strengthen our team.

“We want to build from the base we have, and we hope there’s no need to sell but it’s very complicated because to meet our commitments we have to make sacrifices.”

Zanetti was also asked about the potential investment by the Suning Group.

“Just the fact that there’s interest from a group like that is important to us. They’re investing a lot in football in China, there are a lot of fans.

“It would be something extra to help grow the club.”

Finally, the former captain as asked about Jose Mourinho, the Coach with whom Inter won the treble and who will take over at Manchester United.

“A Coach like him will do well anywhere. Knowing the person he is and the passion he puts into everything I hope that his latest adventure brings great successes.

“I don’t know if he’ll become the new [Sir Alex] Ferguson, it’s difficult to repeat what the Scotsman did. Mourinho is a great Coach though.”
