Inter captain Javier Zanetti believes his teammates need to look forward and not back if they are to rediscover their best form.

The treble winners are under scrutiny after Sunday's 1-0 defeat to Milan in the derby appeared to confirm that they team is on a downward curve.

"We must think about the future. First Ibra then Mourinho was important for Inter. But they are the past.

"Losing the derby hurts, but we must stay united. Being six points behind Milan is not a tragedy.

"We are on course on all fronts and we hope, in December, to lift the Club World Cup to make our trophy cabinet even richer and to give a shock to our season, which has yet to take off."

When asked to explain Inter's problems, Zanetti defended Rafa Benitez.

"It's because of the injuries. Rafa has always had to work in an emergency. He can't work miracles. He needs time."
