Javier Zanetti hit back at Gian Piero Gasperini’s comments claiming Inter only won thanks to the Calciopoli scandal.

Ex-Inter Coach Gasperini told journalists the Nerazzurri would not have started their winning streak without Calciopoli “destroying Juventus.”

Captain Zanetti took to Radio 105 to respond ahead of this afternoon’s match against Inter.

“Perhaps Gasperini forgets that Inter did not just win in Italy, but also triumphed in Europe and in the Club World Cup. That was several years after the scandal of 2006,” noted Zanetti.

“If he forgets all this, then he’s wrong.”

However, Gasperini has no intention of backing down and reiterated his position in a Press conference.

“Winning the Treble was extraordinary, but Inter only started winning after Calciopoli. That isn’t my opinion, it’s simply a fact.”
