Inter captain Javier Zanetti can see the light at the end of his injury tunnel and is “not surprised” by Walter Mazzarri’s success.

The defender has been out of action with a snapped Achilles tendon since April, but could be back on the field next month.

“I am feeling better now and think I’m in the final phase of my injury. I hope to be back as soon as possible and be of use to the team. I can’t wait to get back on the field,” said the 40-year-old.

Inter have been doing well without Zanetti, although their unbeaten record was ended by Roma’s 3-0 result at San Siro.

“I am not surprised, as I already knew Mazzarri as an opponent. Napoli are doing well too. Rafa Benitez was not with us for long, but we knew he was a valid Coach.

“What counts is that now we are on a new path. The first thing Inter have to think about is to be protagonists and fight for something important.

“There are many sides who will fight to the end for the Scudetto. Roma have great players and are a strong adversary. We’ll see what happens at the end, as it’s a very long season.”
