Inter vice-President Javier Zanetti says Jonathan Calleri is “a great player” but “we haven’t entered negotiations”.

The striker is believed to be close to sealing a move to the Nerazzurri, with his club Boca Juniors admitting that a sale is close.

“We’ll see with [Coach Roberto] Mancini and [sporting director Piero] Ausilio if there will be opportunities to make our squad stronger,” Zanetti explained to Tuttomercatoweb.

“That’s not to say that there will be some interventions.

“Calleri? He’s a great player, no doubt. So far though we haven’t entered negotiations. He’s a Boca Juniors player, then anything can happen in the future.”

Zanetti also discussed this season’s title race, with champions Juventus winning six Serie A games in a row.

“The League is very balanced, every team will want to fight until the end. That’s good for Italian football.

“We’re not afraid of Juventus. We respect them, of course, and we had no doubt that they’d get back to the top.

“We lost an important game at Napoli, but we did so fighting until the end. We wanted a draw, and we couldn’t get it, but we still took it head-on.”
