Javier Zanetti describes his former Inter teammate Mario Balotelli as “a jazz musician” of football.

The Argentine spoke to TG1 about his upcoming autobiography and discussed his time with SuperMario.

“I think he needs to find his balance and I hope he does. Mario has immense talent, but he needs to stay calm and do what he knows how to do.

“We spoke many times and he listened, but he is one of those young people who will continue to make mistakes at his age. When you realise you’ve made a mistake, it helps you to grow.

“He is a jazz musician and that is certainly a quality, as he’s one of those players who at any moment can bring out the winning move. He’s good for Milan and especially for Italy, seeing as we are close to the World Cup.”

Balotelli’s career with Inter effectively came to an end after he threw his jersey to the ground at the final whistle of the Champions League semi-final with Barcelona in 2010.

“It was something he should not have done,” added Zanetti. “I think after that gesture he immediately realised it was a mistake. I didn’t say anything at the time, as it wasn’t the right moment to explain. In the locker room he apologised and that was the end of it.”
