The Rosanero were controversially beaten by Frosinone in the Serie B play-off final, with the Lazio side given a two-match stadium ban for disrupting the game by throwing balls onto the pitch, with the match also featuring a pitch invasion and controversial refereeing calls.

The Sicilian side appealed to have the match replayed or awarded to them, but that was rejected by the FIGC.
An appeal was rejected by CONI, but Palermo’s owner is still hopeful of securing Serie A status.
“We’re considering every possibility,” Zamparini told reporters outside of the CONI court.
“We’ll ask for the league to be stopped and Palermo readmitted. It’s justice, if they’d applied Article 17 then Frosinone would have stayed in Serie B.
“The league has just begun, it can be recovered. Or they’ll have to pay at least €50m in damages.”
