Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has confirmed he is “deciding what is best for the team” amid reports he’ll sack Alberto Malesani and recall Gian Piero Gasperini.

The rumours emerged after last night’s 0-0 draw with Genoa left them bottom of the table, though Malesani has only had three games in charge.

“I am thinking about other things right now, but the situation is serious,” President Zamparini told Palermonews.it.

“We are deciding what is best for the team along with the director of sport. The Coach cannot be blamed, as three rounds is not much to evaluate his work.

“The fault lies with us, not the tactician. We are trying to emerge from a difficult situation and this is not the time to be apportioning blame.”

Palermo started the season with Giuseppe Sannino, but sacked him in September. Replacement Gasperini was also axed on February 4 to bring in Malesani.

So far Malesani has drawn all three of his matches in charge.
