Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has rubbished reports from last week that Gennaro Gattuso could be sacked.

Rumours surfaced over the weekend that the former Milan midfielder could be relieved of his duties at Renzo Barbera after a mixed start to the Serie B season.

But the Rosanero chief has insisted those stories are completely false.

“I never thought about getting rid of Gattuso,” he told ItaSportPress. “Even in losses I have given him my confidence.

“There were journalists who assumed I would sack him, but I have never thought about that.”
