Milan full-back Gianluca Zambrotta has hailed his teammate Pippo Inzaghi as a 'unique' footballer after he became the highest goalscorer in the history of European competitions.

The 37-year-old striker hit the net twice in Milan's 2-2 draw with Real Madrid last night and in doing so overtook Gerd Mueller and Raul by reaching 70 goals.

Speaking to the Milan Channel, Zambrotta said: "There is nothing to say. He is a champion. Pippo is unique."

When asked for his opinion of Milan's performance, he said: "I'm sorry that we conceded a goal in injury time and this is something that can't happen in games of this level.

"We put our heart into it and gave a good signal after the ugly showing against Juve.

"On the other hand, there was a great team [in front of us] and the only disappointment is in not having won the game with great determination."
