Alberto Zaccheroni insists that Inter’s constant coaching changes are the reason behind their struggles – but he’s defended President Massimo Moratti.
Zaccheroni, currently the Japan boss, knows the Nerazzurri environment well after a spell in charge at the club during the 2003-04 season.
Asked to comment on the current crisis at San Siro, he’s blamed the lack of stability following the departure of Jose Mourinho in 2010.
“In two years the club have changed four Coaches and as many projects,” Zac told Panorama. “You can’t manage such a situation.
“The President, however, is not the creator of this mess because he works with passion and he has a lot of experience.
“Now they will need to show some patience and take forward a project until the very end in order to see success.”
Since Mou, the Beneamata have appointed Rafa Benitez, Leonardo, Gian Piero Gasperini and Claudio Ranieri.
The club are expected to make substantial changes in the summer after their Champions League exit and domestic struggles this term.
“The players have given their all, even if they are out of the Scudetto chase and they risk missing out on next season’s Champions League,” the former Milan and Juve boss continued.
“Moratti has to resist the pressure and not take any drastic decisions. A project and a Coach can only be judged at the end of the season.”
Inter are currently seventh, 17 points away from leaders Milan and eight shy of the last Champions League spot.
