Former Inter boss Alberto Zaccheroni believes the Nerazzurri are making a “great choice” in Stefano Pioli, whom he likens to Antonio Conte.

Zaccheroni arrived at Inter midway through the 2003-04 season and salvaged a Champions League finish for the side, laying the foundations for Roberto Mancini’s successful reign.

“Pioli? He’s shown in recent years that he’s one of the Coaches with the best ideas after Antonio Conte. Inter appointing the best Italian choice is a great idea,” the Coach told Rai Radio.

“Pioli? He’s shown in recent years that he’s one of the Coaches with the best ideas after Antonio Conte. Inter appointing the best Italian choice is a great idea,” the Coach told Rai Radio.

“At Inter, I arrived at a particular time. We had a squad that wasn’t very Italian, but at least they knew the Italian League.”

Zaccheroni then spoke about another of his previous employers, Juventus, and their need to “change their style of play” in Paulo Dybala’s absence.

“The League is getting very interesting and recovering its force after some years of less fight at the top,” he added.

“I think Juventus are still superior but as far as mid-table and the lower echelons go, there’s more balanced.

“Juventus? Allegri has become practical, he realised some of the problems he had. He’s lost Dybala for now, so he’s playing with two centre-forwards.

“Mandzukic and Higuain can play together because they’re great players, but Juve must change their way of playing, with two strong centre-forwards and more width.”
