Cristian Zaccardo’s refusal to move to Parma, in exchange for Jonathan Biabiany, was reportedly down to money.

The defender was set to return to the Tardini yesterday as part of a deadline day deal that would see Biabiany move in the opposite direction.

Whilst the Frenchman quickly passed a medical, agreed personal terms and was even pictured with a Milan scarf and welcomed by the Rossoneri, the move fell through due to Zaccardo’s refusal to move in the other direction.

A number of outlets today are running the line that the 32-year-old’s wage demands were excessive and responsible for the collapse.

Specifically, it is understood that Zaccardo asked for a three-year contract at the same salary rate he is on at Milan, €900,000-a-season.

However, journalist Franco Ordine has suggested on Milan Channel that issues in negotiations settled on money owed to Zaccardo by the Ducali from his previous spell at the club.

From a credit of €400,000, a reported €150,000 is still due to the defender and payment of this was the issue of contention that broke negotiations.
