Criscito’s room at Italy’s Coverciano training base in Florence was even searched by police at 6.30am yesterday morning.

“From my personal point of view, this is worse than 2006,” De Rossi stated. “Back then club directors were involved, now I’m seeing friends and teammates.

“We woke up yesterday to see police there and we instantly understood the seriousness of the situation.

“Mauri is not a delinquent by any means, he’s an excellent player as well as a good guy,” the Roman continued. “I really hope he comes out of this clean.”
