The Bundesliga side are believed to have already had an offer for the Roma forward rejected this summer, and it remains to be seen whether they will make an improved bid.
According to German outlet Bild, the club would target Zaza as their first alternative should they ot go back in for Destro.
The 23-year-old played an instrumental role in helping the Neroverdi avoid relegation from Serie A last season and is an Italy U-21 international.
