Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri has underlined the significance of last night's Coppa Italia win against Bari.

"It was important to get through to the next round, but also to get back to winning ways," he said after a run of just one League win from their last four Serie A games.

"The Italian Cup is a competition that we want to do well in and the boys played an excellent game."

"The Italian Cup is a competition that we want to do well in and the boys played an excellent game."

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was one of the scorers in the 3-0 triumph, but Antonio Cassano impressed after starting his first game for the club.

"I didn't think he would do so well given his fitness, but he put himself about and made sacrifices for the team," the former Cagliari boss added.

"He combined well with Ibra and Robinho. I'm very happy with what I saw.

"He certainly needs a bit of time to improve his physical condition, but if he works with this intensity then he'll be ready very soon."

Allegri also seemed calm about an injury to Andrea Pirlo who picked up a problem less than 20 minutes after returning to action following a month on the sidelines.

"It doesn't seem to be anything too serious, but we'll make a proper evaluation with the doctors on Friday," concluded Allegri.
