It has been suggested that the Vesuviani are preparing an offer for Mertens, but Sky Sports suggests that Southampton are considering an official bid.
The new Premier League TV deal comes into effect for next season, meaning English sides will receive a huge financial windfall.
Mertens hasn’t started many games for Maurizio Sarri’s side this season, with 24 of his 30 Serie A appearances being from the bench.
However, in those games the 28-year-old has provided five goals and four assists, as well as scoring five times in five Europa League games.
