Edin Dzeko was the decisive figure for Inter in their Supercoppa Italiana win over rivals Milan, earning widespread praise from the Italian press.

The 36-year-old Bosnian forward played 71 minutes of the super cup clash in Riyadh, helping in the build up of the first goal and scoring the second in definitive fashion. With Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez both struggling to show their best for Inter this season, Dzeko is proving to be a vital part of Simone Inzaghi’s squad in the Lombardy capital.

La Gazzetta dello Sport had nothing but praise for Dzeko following his performance in the Supercoppa Italiana final, commenting: “His was a full and urgent performance, such is his hunger for success that he didn’t waste a second in directing the match. What to wait for when it comes to renewal?”

Corriere della Sera highlighted how Dzeko had a hand in a number of key moments in the victory over Milan, praising both his intelligence and elegance on the ball, saying: “It’s not easy to establish whether he has more class or intelligence, but the two add up with the pass for Barella in the action that splits the game, the dribbling and the goal and even with the backheel for Mkhitaryan. Lessons in Dzekology.”

The 36-year-old Dzeko, who is contracted to Inter until the end of the season, has scored 11 goals and provided four assists across 26 appearances this season.

Dzeko’s ratings in the Italian newspapers:

La Gazzetta dello Sport: 8

Tuttosport: 7
