The second half of the second leg of Roma’s Europa League semi-final against Bayer Leverkusen was temporarily suspended due to a lack of visibility on the pitch following an impromptu pyrotechnic display at the BayArena.

Seemingly hundreds of supporters behind the goal of Leverkusen’s stadium lit red flares shortly after the referee had got the second half underway, although the smoke generated from the torches meant that play was unable to continue until the players and officials could see properly again.

Thankfully, the disruption only lasted a handful of minutes before the game got back underway, with the scores level at 0-0 on the night at the time of the incident.

Thanks to Edoardo Bove’s second half strike in the first leg of the tie at the Stadio Olimpico, Roma only need a draw in Germany to book their place in the Europa League final, where they will be met by either Juventus or Sevilla, depending on the outcome of the evening’s other semi-final clash.
