Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has often been the centre of attention in recent summer transfer windows, but this time things look to be a different for the Lazio star.

The 28-year-old has grown into one of the best midfielders in Serie A over the last eight years with the Biancocelesti, regularly attracting the attention of top clubs around Europe like Arsenal, Juventus ad Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite the seemingly endless links away from Lazio in recent years, Milinkovic-Savic chose to stay with Lazio, helping them secure Champions League qualification on two occasions during his time in the capital.

Over the course of this season, things looked to be different for the Serbian midfielder, who chose not to sign a new contract with the club. His current deal expires in a year, making him available for an accessible price this summer, likely in the region of €30-40m.

Despite this, there has not been much buzz surrounding Milinkovic-Savic in recent weeks and the apparently interested clubs have all decided to start focusing on other players, leaving the 28-year-old in a tough spot.

Longtime fans Juventus have continued to follow the midfielder, but instead decided to agree a new one-year contract with Adrien Rabiot, seemingly taking them out of the equation this summer. Simone Inzaghi’s Inter were also keen, but their efforts are focused on Davide Frattesi instead.

Milan were also linked with a move for Milinkovic-Savic, but now they’re reportedly closing in on a deal for Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Considering their need to fill other roles, it’s hard to imagine Gerry Cardinale’s side investing in the Serbian star in the coming months.

Abroad, things have been even more quiet. Paris Saint-Germain have not reignited their interest and Arsenal have diverted their attention to West Ham’s Declan Rice, seemingly ruling out two other possible destinations.

Whilst the summer is still young, Milinkovic-Savic looks to be running out of viable options for a move, making it entirely possible that he’ll stay with Lazio for another year at least.
