Monaco claim Aleksandr Golovin rejected the likes of Juventus and Chelsea because the principality side ‘offered him the conditions to continue his growth’.

Golovin had been heavily linked with Juve and Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea, but the Russian winger ultimately left CSKA to join Monaco on a five-year contract, in a deal worth €35m.

“We’re proud of his arrival,” said Vice-President Vadim Vasilyev.

“He’s a talented young player, who proved it during the World Cup, but we’d been following him long before.

“He already has experience and despite the great competition from the best European clubs, Aleksandr chose Monaco’s sporting project, which will offer him the right conditions to continue his growth.”
