Italy lit up the European Championship with their attacking football, but the defence remained as solid as ever, as Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci proved they are still among the best defenders in the game.
Former Udinese player Fernandes congratulated the Azzurri captain and hailed the 36-year-old as a ‘technical player’ in his message to the Juventus centre-back.
“What a player, a phenomenon,” Fernandes wrote in a message on social media. “One of the best in his role, you deserved this cup!
“When people will understand the technical capacity of the defenders, the way you defend and command, they will understand that you are a technical player too!”
