Rafael Leao has now verbally agreed to sign a new long-term contract with Milan, which is set to be signed before the start of the summer.

La Gazzetta dello Sport detailed on Saturday how the Portuguese winger had agreed to a new five-year deal with the Rossoneri worth around €7m net per season plus add-ons, with a signing bonus worth around €2-3m.

Leao’s contract has been one of the hottest topics in Casa Milan this season and the club will be relieved to have reached an agreement ahead of the summer transfer window, allowing them to plan next season with the 23-year-old.

As reported by Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, the final issue to resolve before Leao can sign his new Milan contract is the €22m fine owed to Sporting CP, his old club.

The Portuguese winger unilaterally terminated his contract with the club in 2018 and joined Ligue 1 outfit Lille, who are now involved in the negotiations with Sporting.

Sources close to the discussions suggest that a turning point is set to be reached within the next 10-15 days, with positive signals emerging from the talks. As such, Leao is expected to sign his new contract before the end of May.
