West Ham United chairman David Sullivan reveals he tried to bring Antonio Conte’s “sexy football” to East London.

The Italy CT has announced that he’ll step down after this summer’s European Championships, and is widely expected to join Chelsea in the English Premier League.

However, the Hammers co-chairman has revealed that he tried to bring the Azzurri boss to England last season.

“After Sam Allardyce left we wanted a big name,” Sullivan explained, as quoted by the Daily Mirror.

However, the Hammers co-chairman has revealed that he tried to bring the Azzurri boss to England last season.

“After Sam Allardyce left we wanted a big name,” Sullivan explained, as quoted by the Daily Mirror.

“[Conte] had taken over the Italy team about a year or so earlier. He told us he’d be lynched if he left them to join us.

“It was a short but positive conversation. He’d made it clear that he did fancy managing in England, though.

“He told us he’d consider it in a year or so. I thought he had a brilliant track record and I thought he would know all the good Italian players.

“He would also play sexy football and it would be jolly good to have him. He had won the Italian title three years in a row and has this incredible record of winning things.

"But given the choice now I’d stick with Slaven [Bilic]. If it wasn’t for Leicester he’d be manager of the year."
