The Colombian striker had already turned down a previous proposal from the Hammers, as he wants to play in the Champions League.

It’s widely reported that Milan had already accepted a €30m offer, but the player did not agree personal terms.

La Gazzetta dello Sport suggests this evening that they increased their wage deal to €4.5m per year, but that doesn’t get past the original problem.

"Our search for a new forward has been well documented and we have been working hard to negotiate moves for some big name strikers," David Sullivan told the official West Ham website.

"Ideally we would have had someone in place by now but sadly that has not proved to be the case and the forwards we have targeted want to play Champions League football.

"Whatever deal we offer to that player, if he wants Champions League football he will not come to us."

Bacca is believed to be holding out for offers from Atletico Madrid or even his old club Sevilla.
