Arsene Wenger concedes Arsenal hoped to avoid Udinese. “Who would want to play against an Italian opponent? It's difficult, but possible.”

The two clubs have been paired off in the Champions League preliminary round, playing at the Emirates on August 16 and the Stadio Friuli on August 24.

“I would say it's difficult, but possible,” Wenger said in his Press conference.

“Who would want to play against an Italian opponent? We know we will have to be at our best to qualify.

“Udinese have lost Alexis Sanchez and Cristian Zapata, but they have many other good players. They have Antonio Di Natale and plenty of players who have quality.

“Let's try to be at our best as quickly as we can because it is important for us to go through in the Champions League.”

The losing team will go into the Europa League group phase.
