The Azzurri begin their World Cup campaign against the Three Lions on Saturday evening in Manaus.

Today there was no sign of Manchester United striker Welbeck at the Urca training ground, having limped off with a thigh problem during Tuesday’s session.

Welbeck had been expected to start against Italy, but now seems unlikely to feature at all due to injury.

It has already been confirmed that Arsenal star Oxlade-Chamberlain will not be fit in time for the game with Italy after suffering a knee injury in the warm-up game against Ecuador.

Raheem Sterling is therefore moving up the pecking order and could well be in the starting XI on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the FA announced England will not be training in Manaus tomorrow, so Friday will be their only chance to test out the pitch.
