Sampdoria will be without Emiliano Viviano for the derby with Genoa, as he has a scaphoid fracture.

The goalkeeper picked up an injury while making a save in the match against Pescara, and test have shown a fracture in one of the small carpal bones in the wrist.

“The player Emiliano Viviano, in saving a strong, close-range shot from [Gianluca] Carprari midway through the first half of Pescara-Sampdoria, picked up an injury in the wrist of his left hand,” the Blucerchiati confirmed in a statement.

“The tests showed a scaphoid fracture. As well as the opinions of the of orthopedist at the club, professor Claudio Mazzola, the Sampdoria healthcare team have consulted with hand surgery specialists who have confirmed that a conservative therapy plan can be followed.

“Therefore he will be given a special guard for the joint and in about 10 days he’ll be subject to any further necessary tests.”
