Fiorentina team manager Vincenzo Guerini hinted at a Mario Gomez exit. “As long as he’s our player, he should be supported.”

The German was linked to a sensational exchange of loans with Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli.

“I think the problem with Gomez is purely psychological, aside from the injuries,” Guerini told Radio Bruno Toscana.

The German was linked to a sensational exchange of loans with Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli.

“I think the problem with Gomez is purely psychological, aside from the injuries,” Guerini told Radio Bruno Toscana.

“Last year he also scored some decisive goals, but then lost his way again. As long as he’s our player, he should be supported.”

It was hardly a ringing endorsement or likely to build his already shaky confidence.

Gomez, who only turned 30 this week, scored 14 goals in 47 competitive games for Fiorentina over two years.

“What this team needs is more muscle and less complacency,” added Guerini. “The club has clear ideas for the market.”
