Riccardo Montolivo has been told by Giancarlo Antognoni to expect jeers when he returns to Fiorentina as a Milan player next weekend.

The 28-year-old moved to the Diavolo in the summer on a free transfer after his contract with the Viola, whom he joined in 2005, expired.

“Montolivo will be whistled, that is obvious,” Antognoni, who spent 15 years in Tuscany, told Firenze Viola.

“But the fans will not only jeer him because of the past, but because he now plays for Milan and they are a side to be feared.”

Fiorentina and Milan are fighting for a place in next season’s Champions League, but the Viola fell six points behind the San Siro giants this weekend following a defeat at Cagliari.

“The Champions League dream is not over,” the 1982 World Cup winner added. “Fiorentina must believe until the very end.

“There are still eight games left and Milan will arrive in Florence on Sunday. It’ll be an open game, a spectacular one.”
