Tonny Vilhena explains what he can bring to Salernitana and being won over by their ‘fanatic’ supporters after the transfer from Espanyol.

The former Feyenoord midfielder completed his transfer on loan for €300,000 with an option to buy for a further €3.5m.

“I’m very happy to be here, looking forward to play here and to win a lot of games with the club,” said Vilhena on the official club website.

“I am happy they have confidence in me, now it’s time to show I will work hard for the club, for the team and to make a good season.”

The 27-year-old is a Netherlands international with 15 senior caps to his name and had a brief spell at Krasnodar.

“I am a box-to-box player, I can defend, I can attack, I can make goals, make assists, strong in duels. The club offered me the Number 10, it’s nice and I will be proud to wear this shirt for the club.”

Salernitana escaped a seemingly doomed situation last season to secure their Serie A safety, sparking wild celebrations.

“I see a lot of videos, the supporters are amazing, they are fanatic and help the team. It is very good to see how they go to the game, the emotion from the fans, I cannot wait to see it live.”
