Sampdoria striker Fabio Quagliarella broke down in tears after he received a surprise award from Napoli ultras, as he is expected to retire and had such a tortured relationship with his hometown club.

It kicks off at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona at 17.30 UK time (16.30 GMT).

You can follow all the build-up and action as it happens from today’s six Serie A games on the LIVEBLOG.

This will be the final match of Quagliarella’s Serie A career and it is not yet confirmed if he will retire, but it seems likely for the 40-year-old after Samp’s relegation.

Fate decided the last game would be in his hometown and Napoli fans surprised him with an award from the Curva A fans, including a photograph of his time at the club.

It was an emotional moment and he burst into tears, comforted by the burly ultras leaders.

There was also a banner in the stands: ‘Proud son of Partenope, from a troubled past to glorious present, your sweat soaked our jersey, you will never be forgotten by your people. Grazie, Fabio!’

Quagliarella had been insulted for many years after leaving Napoli, until it was revealed he had been forced out by dealing with a nightmare stalker who had made his life a living hell.

Since then, the ultras have been eager to make up for it and show how much he was truly loved in this town.

He continued to cry intermittently during the warm-up, even saying to DAZN pitchside reporter Ciro Ferrara: “How am I supposed to play now?”
