Former Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly called Chelsea legend John Terry personally to ask permission to inherit the Number 26 jersey as a gesture of respect.

The Senegal international spent nine years at Napoli and was all set to become the new captain at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in place of departing Lorenzo Insigne.

However, he instead opted for a transfer to Chelsea and wanted to keep the Number 26, which had not been worn by anyone at the club since Terry’s exit in 2017.

Although it was not technically retired by the club, Koulibaly still thought it only right to call up Terry and ask for permission.

The 41-year-old is now working for the youth academy, having made 715 competitive appearances for the Blues.
