Pierluigi Gollini has flown out to sign for Tottenham Hotspur, thanking Atalanta for being ‘a second home’ and assuring Spurs represented ‘a big opportunity.’

The goalkeeper has agreed a loan deal with option to buy for €15m, which will become an obligation once he reaches 20 competitive appearances for the club.

“I am very happy. Clearly, it was difficult to leave a place that was like a second home and family. I thank Bergamo, as I felt loved here and what we did will remain in the history of the club, but this is a new experience.

“I am very happy and grateful to Tottenham for this big opportunity. Hugo Lloris is a World Cup winner, so it’s prestigious and an honour for me to play with him.”

He was asked if there were any other offers this summer from clubs within Serie A.

“Tottenham was the best offer, but in all honesty it was also difficult for me to wear a jersey that wasn’t Atalanta.”

There were some reports that Gollini clashed with coach Gian Piero Gasperini, who rotated him with Marco Sportiello throughout last season.

“The time will come when I’ll talk about that.”

The shot-stopper had two previous experiences in England with Manchester United and Aston Villa, so assured there will be no language problems.
