Olivier Giroud broke his goal drought after almost two months with a brace against Napoli, but yet more injuries for Pierre Kalulu saw Marco Pellegrino make his Milan debut.

The Rossoneri were already decimated going into the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, as Simon Kjaer joined Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Samuel Chukwueze, Ismael Bennacer, Marco Sportiello and Mattia Caldara on the treatment table today.

That proved particularly damaging, because Kjaer was meant to fill in when Kalulu limped off with a muscular issue just 18 minutes into the game.

Instead, coach Stefano Pioli looked to the bench and gave 21-year-old Argentine Pellegrino his debut in the Milan jersey, having not played a single minute so far in Serie A or the Champions League.

If a young man made his debut, then a veteran rediscovered his mojo, because Giroud had not found the net in all competition since September 1 and broke that drought with two goals in a nine-minute spell.

They were both glancing headers on crosses from the right, provided by Christian Pulisic and Davide Calabria.
