There has been an accident in Rome’s Repubblica Metro station involving CSKA Moscow fans with reports of a collapsed escalator.

According to initial reports, a large group of fans was drunk and started jumping up and down on the escalator, until it gave way.

Police, ambulances and fire services are all in attendance and the station has been closed.

Police confirm there are 20 injured, one severely, mostly with injuries to their legs.

There have also been reports of clashes around the stadium, with one Russian fan stabbed near Ponte Duca D’Aosta, a notorious hot-spot for hooliganism, and police resorted to using water cannon to split the groups up.

There was another smaller coming together in Piazza Mancini, with two Russians and one Italian under arrest.

CSKA Moscow play Roma at the Stadio Olimpico at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT) for the Champions League.
