Chile’s Arturo Vidal has declared himself ready to play a full part in this summer’s World Cup.

The Juventus man underwent knee surgery several weeks ago to try to rid him of a persistent problem in time for the tournament.

He made his return to action last night in his country’s final warm-up before the competition, a 2-0 win against Northern Ireland, and is now convinced he will be fit come kick-off in Brazil.

“I’m pleased with my performance,” Vidal said of his display yesterday. “Now I’m ready for the World Cup.

“I’m happy, the knee has responded well and I am sure I’ll be back to play against Australia at the start of the World Cup.”

Orthopaedic specialist Ramon Cugat, however, takes a different view of Vidal’s race to be fit.

“Vidal is risking a recurrence,” he said. “If he were to play before July 7, that is to say before two months have passed since his operation on his right knee, he risks a recurrence.”
